The little beauty in the photo is a Shingle Back Lizard, better known as a Bobtail, her name is Mrs Crabtree, and she belongs to the Greenough Wildlife Park, just outside Geraldton. Our Green Army team met her when they manned a stall at a Science Fayre called Sci-Tech.
They see lots of Bobtails sunning themselves on the tracks when we are out working on the Chapman and Greenough Rivers, they can live up to 70 years old and mate for life with one partner, having up to 4 babies at a time.
Their diet is vegetation, leaves, insects and snails. Bobtails poke out their tongues to taste, and i got the guys to hold their hands near her face (they don’t bite) and she poked her tongue at them! Awesome animals!
