At Bridging the Gap, we’re proud to provide Parent Pathways: a voluntary service designed to support parents and carers of children under six in achieving personal, study, or work goals. Parent Pathways is all about putting you first, recognising the unique challenges of parenting, and offering flexible support tailored to your needs. Whether you’re looking to re-enter the workforce, pursue education, or strengthen your family’s wellbeing, our qualified mentors work with you to create a plan that fits seamlessly into your life.

Parent Pathways is designed to meet parents where they are, ensuring access to financial, educational, and personal support while providing guidance in a flexible, family-friendly environment.
Personalised Support Tailored to You
Parent Pathways is focused entirely on your individual circumstances. You’ll work closely with a qualified mentor who helps identify opportunities and services that suit your goals, your schedule, and your family’s needs. This may include support to access training programs, childcare, literacy courses, career guidance, or financial assistance to cover study-related costs.
The service is voluntary and flexible. You can join, pause, or leave at any time without pressure. Our mentors are here to help you navigate changes in your situation and provide ongoing support, ensuring you always have the guidance you need to progress towards your goals. Your children are welcome at in-person appointments, and we offer options to meet online or over the phone, making participation as convenient as possible.
Support Options Include:
Assistance with finding childcare and financial help for childcare costs
Access to language or literacy programs
Financial support for training courses, textbooks, or computers
Engagement support vouchers of up to $250 per year are available for eligible parents, redeemable for fuel or groceries
Referral to additional services, including family, domestic violence, and financial information support
Career guidance and mentoring to explore work or study pathways
Short courses or training at local TAFE or other community providers
Eligibility & How to Participate
Parent Pathways is for parents and carers who:
- Have a child aged under 6
- Are not in paid employment
- Live in an area where there is a Parent Pathways provider
Receiving one of these payments:
- Parenting Payment
- Carer Payment
- Special Benefit
Eligibility includes those who are not getting a Centrelink payment, and are either:
- Under 22 years old
- An early school leaver (parents who don’t have a year 12 qualification)
- A First Nations parent or carer
